Virtual Reality Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that allows clients to enter a virtual world to explore thoughts, feelings and behaviors. It combines realistic computer – generated images in the presence of skilled mental health professionals to stimulate real-life situations and experiences.

Once we have received your referral form, we will contact you and complete a service agreement. Once the service agreement has been completed and signed, we will then send you out the required equipment and information. You will then be booked an appointment with one of our trained therapists who will conduct the sessions with you via an online platform. If you have any questions along the way we are always happy to assist.

You will need a head mounted device, smart phone and internet access. Virtual Reality Therapy Australia supply and send you out the headsets via Australia Post once a referral and service agreement has been completed. You will also receive a therapy box with additional therapy tools to support you.

A Virtual Reality (VR) Headset is a head mounted device that includes a display screen, sound and sensors. When in use, the user of the headset can no longer see any element of the external world.

Virtual Reality Therapy Australia uses specialized technology and software programming produced by XR Health. You will be asked to download an app on your smartphone once your receive your package in the mail which the therapist can connect to during your session times.

Progress is tracked and evaluated during the VR therapy sessions. It may include self-report questionnaires, feedback from the therapist and using the data collected from the software. Our therapist will start with an initial assessment so we can ensure that we are creating the right program for you. This can also be adjusted along the way if you feel like you goals have changed.

  • Virtual Reality Therapy sessions can be done remotely, at any location making it easily accessible to anyone, no matter where you are located.
  • The sessions can be personalized to match your the needs, abilities and preferences
  • The environments are enjoyable, making it easier for you  to practice new skills and coping strategies
  • Virtual Reality Therapy is beneficial to participants who are unable to picture a situation to sufficiently produce their normal level of anxiety and the stimuli can be gradually introduced or removed as needed in a controlled environment.
  • The therapy sessions can be more consistent than traditional therapies and either repeatable or progressive

Users may experience headaches, motion sickness and dizziness. It is not recommended for those who may experience vertigo or have a history of seizures. Please advise our therapist of any medical concerns during the referral process.

At any time, you no longer feel comfortable to continue, the headset can immediately be removed or switched off, bringing you back to real life. A therapist will be there to talk and support you every step of the way and will only move at a pace you are comfortable with

 

Our practitioners undergo a comprehensive onboarding and training process. During this process we aim to match you with the therapist or practitioner that best suits your needs.

Once we receive your referral, your information is uploaded to a confidential portal in which only the allocated therapist can access. If you have any concerns with this please speak with our friendly team.

Whilst we aim to provide you with as much assistance as possible, we do have limited access to face-to-face therapy sessions. One of the many benefits of Virtual Reality Therapy is that it can be completed from the comfort of your own home or chosen place. Virtual Reality Therapy does require a computer or smart device and a strong internet connection. Our trained therapists are there to help you through the process step by step if you are not feeling confident in using the technology. Our therapists are also available to provide a demonstration if you are not sure that VR Therapy is the right fit for you.
